In January of this year, Layton Construction published an insightful survey and article about what employees really want at their workplace.

When Denver unemployment is at record lows of 2.3%, companies must be concerned about how to attract and retain employees. This study shows that the office environment is more important than vacation days, retirement benefits and their boss! Issues such as windows with lots of natural light and quiet private places to work were highly rated features. Conversely, common complaints were too noisy, cold, and stuffy.

Surprisingly, some of the items receiving lots of attention these days, like game rooms with ping pong or foosball,  or employee lounges/gathering places, did not rank highly. The study concludes that workers just want to be productive, an important point for business to remember as they select and design their office space.
